Our Team

Dr. Susan Cardwell is the owner/veterinarian of Village Veterinary Hospital. She attended Troy University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. In 2002 she graduated from Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. After working in a mixed animal practice in Tennessee, she worked in Columbus, GA with small animals. She has been in the Baldwin County area for the last 13 years practicing small animal medicine and surgery. She enjoys communicating with her clients in the areas of prevention, wellness, and supportive care. She believes each client-patient is unique and tries to individualize therapy as much as possible.

Kristen Smith, LVT is a Licensed Veterinary Technician who received her degree from Coastal Alabama Community College. She is a crucial part of pre and post anesthetic monitoring of our surgical/sedated patients, performing or sending out laboratory tests, monitoring of sick in patients and much more. She has an enthusiastic interest in small mammals and exotic animal medicine. She has a dog, a cat, and a ferret. She has also been “mom” to a hedgehog, rats, and mice. She is always smiling and loves to help educate our clients about medications and conditions to better help their pets.

Cassie Steele is the Director of Employee Operations and a Veterinary Assistant. She helps keep the flow of the clinic going throughout the day. She also handles the nutritional needs of our resident office cats as well as any of the rescue dogs or cats being boarded at our hospital. She is an invaluable source for advice on selection of the proper dietary needs of your pets. She also has an important role in patient monitoring whether in surgery or being treated in hospital.

Rebecca Griffin is our wonderful receptionist with 30 years experience. She was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and has been a resident of Alabama for 15 years. She is skilled in customer service and is passionate about our animal family and owners. She strives to make every client and patient happy to the best of her ability. She is responsible for answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, checking everyone in and out, and most importantly to provide a warm and welcoming environment for our clients and their pets.
